Symptom: Competitors undercut my price
Competitors undercut your price on Amazon? Compete on the reason to choose you
When a competitor drops their price, the first instinct is to match it. Often that only moves both listings to a lower margin while the shopper's reason to choose stays the same.
Price is one part of positioning. The question is whether a shopper, looking at your listing next to theirs, can see why yours is worth more.
Check where your price really sits
Compare price per unit with listings a shopper sees as alternatives: same format, similar pack size, similar quality. A listing that looks cheaper may simply have fewer pieces.
Build a price range from these comparable offers. Inside the range, you need a reason; above it, you need a visible one.
Find an advantage shoppers can see in a second
Shoppers decide from the thumbnail and the first words of the title. An advantage that only appears in bullet four doesn't exist for most of them.
The cheapest advantages are in competitors' reviews: the problems buyers keep complaining about. If your product solves one, put it in the title, the main image and the first bullet.
- Group competitors' 1–3 star reviews into themes.
- Check which themes your product solves – with proof.
- Lead with the strongest one.
Know what a price cut costs before you make it
A lower price also lowers your break-even ACoS – the advertising you can afford per sale. Work out profit per unit at both prices before deciding.
Only claim what you can prove
Unsupported claims lead to suppressed listings and disappointed buyers. Keep claims you can document; reword or remove the rest.
Modules for this stage
- Competitors & Positioning – Decide who your product is for, why it wins and what price it can hold.
- Manufacturer Brief – Turn buyer complaints and expectations into concrete requirements for your factory.
